A “replant” is probably the best way to describe LBBC. We are a church with a 30+ year history that in many ways is getting a fresh new start.
The church everyone wants …
but no one is looking for
We live in a McWorld. It seems almost anything can be done your way, right away. But is that the best way to live? And is that the best way to approach church? At LBBC we are trying something fairly radical. We want to be the kind of church that everybody needs even if it isn’t exactly what they are looking for. We don’t provide a show or “preach to the choir.”
We just want to be real people
encountering a real Jesus
so we can change the real world.
Real People: We aren’t into religion–being spiritual for the sake of being spiritual, or shamming some moral superiority over the rest of the world. If Jesus is real, then that changes everything, and we want to act like it. So our desire is to authentically think, feel, talk, and live out the hope Jesus gives us.
Real Jesus: The only way there is hope for me or for this world is if God really came into this world, really took up our cause, really died our death, and really rose again. We don’t worship and serve Jesus because that is the Christian thing to do. We worship Jesus because He is the best thing that ever happened to this world, and He is the best that ever happened to us.
Real World: We aren’t looking at the world or ourselves through rose colored glasses. The world is rough and we are a mess, but we aren’t despairing because we know Jesus is bigger. We are nothing more than messing people clinging to an awesome and perfect Savior. As a result, we aren’t looking for clean and tidy people (haven’t met any yet). Instead, we expect to find people with lots of problems who have made lots of mistakes, so that we can together worship and serve the one who forgives our mistakes and changes our lives.
